Should I send him flowers or chocolates?

He's a friend of mine. he's living in another country and these seem to be my only options of what to send him for his birthday as I don't have time to mail him something from here. Would a guy like either one or is there no other good idea? he's living in turkey by the way...

chocolates last longer than flowers, taste better, smell better, and satisfy appetites.
